Diff Question

When I jack one side of my IS up at the rear, in neutral with the handbreak off, and turn the wheel there is a fair amount of resistance and the wheel stops dead as soon as you stop turning it. This makes me think it might ba a slipper. If I am lucky!
But when both rear wheels are jacked up and you spin one (there is still a fair amout of resistance) but the other wheel turns in the oppersite direction. Does that mean its an open diff or not ?

Thanks

there should be a little resistance

if the wheels go in the opposite direction you have an open diff.

get it down on its wheels put it on the road and light the tyres up is going to be a fairly easy way, if you have an LSD you will leave2 lack lines,

As above, output shafts turn in the same direction when rotated with a bit of force, failing that, and in the absence of an S on the tag, remove the rear plate and look for a clutch pack!
