Anyone know of an easier way to take the oil sump off an 325i, G reg.
It has power steering which the rack runs over the sump.

Open the bonnet, undo the nuts on the rubber engine mounts, jack the engine up as far as you dare by the sump, using a wide wooden plank under the sump. Watch out for the fan getting intimate with the radiator (take off the top radiator mount if you like, and let the radiator lift up with the engine).
Remove the engine mounts completely, and replace them with wooden blocks that will hold the engine right up when you remove the jack.
Take the jack out the way, and you should now have enough room to remove the sump.

Raise and lower the jack VERY carefully and slowly, and keep checking all around for anything that might be catching or being stressed.
