Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me, my e30 316i has started to overheat when stuck in traffic. About a week ago the water pump went and it started to overheat however that has now been replaced and it is not losing a drop of coolent. The car is fine when its moving, its just when its stuck in traffic for more then about 5 mins it starts to get hot. I have found putting the heating and blower on full does bring it back to normal.

Sounds like the viscous coupling for your fan has failed.

The coupling is the metal section joining the fan blades to the engine.
It is quite easy to remove with a 32mm spanner.

If the water pump was recently replaced, you've already had it off. I hope you didn't locktite it back on!
