E30 Zone

Some may wonder why, but disability prevails. Apart from the basic manual tasks, there seems to be some hookup to the Motronic system required. 1990 E30 320i touring is the car.
Anyhow I need information and any good advice. Finding a good auto as an alternative may be harder then converting.

There should be a couple of small sockets hanging off the loom to the ECU very near to the ECU plug.
Pin 3 of the white one (red/blue) should be connected to a green/black from the auto gear selector switch.

thanks. Any known issues with the mechanicals? ie, do I need a different prop shaft? Do I nned to change the centre console?

Propshaft is different, gearbox crossmember is different, centre console needs a little angle bracket to take a screw for the selector lever surround, pedal box is the same, and, presumably, you could just cut off the clutch pedal and keep the same brake pedal.
There is supposed to be a starter inhibitor switch, which has its own little loom, which connects into the starter circuit at a single pole plug and socket in a black/yellow wire above the glovebox.
This is quite difficult to think about in reverse!!
Spigot bearing must be removed from the end of the crankshaft. (Fill the end of the crank completely with grease (no air bubbles), and use a large punch that is a close fit into the bearing centre hole to force it out hydraulically, by driving the punch in with a hammer).

I've got 200K on mine, if I've got to fiddle at the flywheel end, may as well get one set up for an auto. I've got a new head, so it would make a nice car even better. Reconned blocks aren't too dear on a car thats gonna live another 20 years.

It seems maybe getting the spigot bearing out etc is easy. Shouldn't be too hard to convert. Won't need to do it for a while though, maybe never, left leg is good enough. Right leg is bad, got hand controls that side as backup.
