welding - jacking points.

Hi all,

I'm due to go to a garage this afternoon and get a price on new jacking points being welded etc.

This is the current state of my jacking points:

Same on the other side, but i've not tackled it yet like the above side. It's been temp filled with that trendy fibreglass stuff but water is still coming through it so it's time to get something proper done about it now.

Just curious of the price, anyone had this done before, if so what should I expect to pay? I don't want to get ripped off and obviously want to pay the leased amount but get a good job done at the same time.

Would appreciate any help... or if anyone on here wants the work let me know.

Hi craig. I have the exact same problem. I was DIY spraying my wheels the other day and jacked up the car CRUNCH. She bent and went through.

Id be interested to know as i had no replies when i posted!

Since thay are not jacking points, then then it doesn't look hard to do. Cut metal to fit over the hole, weld, and smother in under body sealant. Couple of hours work for both sides.

Right, got back from my local garage earlier.

both sides £100 + VAT all in. He said thats basically a hours labour and a hour a side. I told him that i'll sort the carpets and remove the fibre glass crap and knock the other side through etc out for him and he was chuffed with that.

Just to note that this place restores and helps to restore old MG's and the like as well as general servicing so I have every trust in them doing a good job. They also said that it's NOT a MOT failure!!

I know they ain't jacking points (had this discussion with the guy at the garage) but as everyone calls them this i thought it will be easier for a description.

I always use the BMW jack that came with the car, excellent thing and better than a trolly jack lol

Now, the square plate thats external to the car that you'd fit your trolly jack in to(if you was to use it this way), will this need replacing or can you just weld a piece of metal there without it?

Just leave the square bit off, plate over flat.
