E30 Zone

I left the car so long without driving it that the alarm ran the battery flat, and now i can't get in. I can get into the boot, but nowhere else. The boot lock doesn't unlock the other doors.

If anyone fancys telling me kindly via pm how to gain access to the interior of my car or a way to pop the bonnet from outside the car that would be great. I NEED the car this weekend, don't wanna have to break a window or something silly

between the grill on the right of your kidney grill (if you face your car), and to the left of the headlight, there is a hole, poke in a flat head screwdriver (using a torch if needed) and turn and the bonnet will pop open.

Alternativly if you can get under the car you can attatch jump leads.

the battery is in the scuttle so i don't think i can get leads up there, not safely anyway.

will try getting the bonnet open that way when i get some daylight, cheers

The screwdriver in the grill trick is a simple and an effective way of opening the bonnet - once open you can attact jump leads to the battery as normal.

BTW, my Tourer hasn't got a bonnet release cable and the long screwdriver i carry around in the car does the trick all the time

you can attach jumpleads at the starter and engine earth strap

I'm sure you can attatch the neg to the body work and the positive to the starter motor, this will piggy back the spare battery or car (if you have very long leads) onto your flat battery so the car has power.

You can they use your key fob as normal

couldn't find a screw or anything behind the grille :s

and i don't even remember where the starter is, but will have a look under there on saturday as a last resort.

What your looking for behind the grill (passanger side) is a round insert about 9mm in diameter - inside it you'll see a slot perfect for a flat head screw driver - you'll need a reasonably long screw driver though.

ah yes i saw that, my long screwdriver was too fat to fit in though, will have to find a slightly slimmer one i guess.

If you can't i'll give you 500 quid for it 'as is' and collect it on Saturday

Alternative way is to remove the boot light bulb, and apply a battery charger between the live lead and earth.
Don't let the current exceed 7.5A or the fuse (21) will blow.

Yeah i had considered charging it through the wiring in the boot or similar.

the little thing inside the grille that releases the bonnet did the job spot on, great help from you guys, dunno what i'd have done without you

this has been a handy thread, as i'm hope'n to de-lock my cabby next year (all going well) ... i de-locked a MKIII VX-cavy yrs ago and i had quite a-bit of bother getting in to it when the alternator fried the battery over night!

Get a loverly solar trickle charger so it doesn't happen again!
