No matter how hard i tug or wiggle my knob it wont come... out of 1st

8O
anyway, is it worth looking at repairing the box (diy) or would it be easier fitting another one?

What gearboxes will suit and from what other e30s? doesnt have to be spot on ratios, just make it run.

What sort of effort is require to swap the box, im a compotent diy mechanic but what sort of time scales and any specilist/odd tools needed?

Thanks

I had a look into this when considering engine swaps, as far as I can remember, the M40/M42 box should fit as will the dogleg from an E21 or 2002Ti/Tii. Not sure about the mounting points though.

If you have worn engine and gearbox mounts the whole engine can shift forward causing the rear gearstick linkage to jump out of its mount, that then jams the gearstick in place. So you may not need a new box, get underneath it and have a look at the mount just behind the gearstick above the propshaft.
If you have a small mirror it will come in handy.
