Anyone used one and was it any good?

their website has lots of quotes from car mags about 20% fuel efficiency but their independant tests seem to indicate only about a 1% gain...

There was a trading standards investigation into these things a while ago.

Think they concluded that the devices didn't do shit and instructed the likes of Max Power etc. to stop with the false advertising

They work .... but if you got a carb on your car ...

I bought one and it was absolute crap, yes the car felt pokier ... but thats only cos it was letting in extra air that the ecu didn't know about therefore causing the car to run lean ... never good on the 'is' lump .. leads to overheating so im told and burns pistons etc ... ahh

Gave mine to my mate with an old lil mini cooper and he was over the moon with it as it gave him that little extra tuning capability and i will admit it is a noticable difference in pickup of the engine.

Down side, they make the most anoying noise on engine rev down, sound's like a donkey every time you rev the car up and let off. lol

So they can work ok with carbs, i guess to get them set up a little better?
But dont make much improvement on the fual injected E30s?

why dont all cars have them as standard if they really are as good as the adverts say?

well this is interesting... I've had one on for 12 months and I can't say I've noticed any power increase but I definately get an extra 30+ miles on a full tank compared to before. I drive 300 miles a week on average so that helps me a lot!

only sayin' how I find it. Its a bit of a game to set it at the right spot, perhaps you should try again or just close it altogether!

my understanding of these things was that they increased the fuel pressure at the injector rail hence why they only are to be put on older cars, they couldn't make any difference to a carb engine as increasing the incoming fuel pressure would only fill the float bowls up faster which would not increase performance and probably eventually lead to flooding.

And finally if i am right that would make your engine run rich not lean.

and another thing, i read a PBMW that had a eco tech advert with a quote from PBMW saying the things really work, then in the letters column someone is asking for advice in fitting one and they dont recommend them, make your mind up guys!!

Eco Tek Valves work on or effect air intake, thats why they are fitted in-line from the brake servo vacuum. As Peejay confirmed, the idea is more air in and therefore 'runs lean' - so of course a little improvement in consumption. But they are advertised as providing a 'livelier' response and initial pick-up is improved - even on injected engines. It is all down to how the car's air intake is effected by adding such a valve, and how you adjust the thing.

I do over 500 miles/week, mostly motorway, all in the 320 and may be tempted if I could save a few pennies.

There again - if it screws up throttle response and sounds like a donkey..

Ade, I drive a 325 i M/sport cab and seriously mate I rate it! I hav'nt noticed any increase in BHP but there has been no adverse effects either. This is my second 325i sport the first one and this one prior to the ecotek valve returned about 27 miles to the gallon now I get 30+ sometimes more if i drive like a vicar!! (thats not often I can tell you!)
