so i bypassed the matrix to bleed the engine

The click from behind the dash/glove box area should be the heater valve.

Could also be air still trapped in the heater pipes.

Make sure you connect the matrix stubs up the right way daz, or the heater valve wont work 'proper like' AND Brian will come and get you

at the moment the matrix is bypassed

but did double check at the time
theres just nothing when you turn the heater at all no motor spinning etc

had a very similar thing with mine
if with the heater on (but not spinning) in the dark do the lights slighly dim as you hear the click sound
if so its the heater motor draining the power.
disconnect the fuse for the heater and you will confirm this if there is no click

Heater is the bit that gets hot. FAN is not the heater!
As chief says. Not uncommon for the motor to seize after twenty years of no lubrication.
