Lots of sump questions... bear with me

Please forgive the rubbish drawing but it should help what im trying to understand.

Firstly when i changed the m20 sump last, it has 2 things coming down from the block into the sump, i assume the red one is the oil pick up, and the blue one being where it filters back in? It would make sense but id like to know for sure.

Next question is, on the m30 engine (e34 3.5), is the oil pick up just as low? if so is there any way to make it higher up in the sump?

Thirdly, and the reasoning behind all the questions, is im trying to work out how to make the sump winged with more ground clearance, but like i say the oil pick up sits right at the bottom of the sump, so dont quite get how you could move it, unless there is a different one I could use or something?

Finally, although I assume the company I ask to do the actual wings will know, what would be the best sort of shape for the wings? ofr oil starvation issues, although like i say the people I want to make it will know more, but i'd like to know myself, (keen to learn)

Sorry for the million and one questions, can anyone help? :?

cheers

Think the blue thing in your sketch is the oil pressure releif assembly.

Would you perhaps be better off fitting a guard for the sump rather than widening it?

Would imagine that the oil will have more chance of running away from the pickup if the sump's wider.

Cheers, i have a guard on the car at the minute, but before i did the car was lower, and i want to go that low again, but dont fancy breaking another sump. extreme yes but has it will be off the road while the 3.5 gets done, i figure i might as well look into it.

thanks for the info on the presure relief assembly :D
