E30 Zone

As above, nice and smooth when warmed up but rough and hesitant to rev when cold. Sometimes get a whiff of petrol too. I've noticed from other posts here that it could be the cold start sensor? Are these cheap and easy to replace?

I plan to start with the easiest/cheapest first (i.e. plugs) and work from there. Seems to be quite common. What have others done to cure this?

ive slowly got used to mine after i gave up trying to find out what was wrong with it! i would love to know what it is though!

Does the car smoke a little when started! if it does that could be the beginning of worn bores, which will always cause rough starting.

If you haven't serviced the car, that would be the thing to do first,

if you smell petrol in starting, check the fuel rail supply pipe it cracks sometimes and it may cause problems.

sure is.
look for the blue sensor on the thermostat housing which is where all the large waterpipes meet. they cost about a 10er from gsf

go to the dealers for this part it is 4 quid dearer but i beleive it better because gsf lasted 1 year orignal 13 years

Did you notice an improvement when you replaced the sensor, Fowler? I'll get one ordered from the dealers anyway and go from there. Thanks for the advice

Can someone please confirm that the sensor I (possibly) need is part number 13 62 1 709 966.

I replaced both my sensors (one for the temp guage and one for the ECU) and it made no difference what-so-ever...

Mine is still lumpy when cold, but is great once up and running.

Seems like there's a good few of us with these running problems at the moment - myself included.

have you removed the blue sensor lead with the engine running, if the engine note changes and runs differently then the wiring is ok, if there is no change then you'll need to start rummaging for a broken connection.

This happened to my SE and took about an hour to sort, the difference is massive.

I did it the hard way and changed the whole injector loom as someone had cut the wires and bodged it with bullet connectors. I spliced a new (ish) plug in and a decent injector electrics rail in. Job done.
