gear changing in the tourer leaves a lot to be desired, it is really sloppy/loose, feels like its in neutral when in gear.

Anyone know the best route? is it the linkage or is it something that a short shit kit would cure?

Thanks in advance

Mine's the same, moves about an inch left and right while in gear!

From what I've gathered on here a full short shift kit would sort it out, I plan on doing this sometime soon :)

 at the "short shit" typo!

There's two delrin type bushes in the linkage that wear out over time. Replacing them restores the shift to it's former glory :)

See previous threads about Z3 shifter - loads of zoners seem to like it. I bought a short shifter off Ebay for Ԛ£24.95 plus Ԛ£5 p&p. Unlike the Z3 shifter, it needed no bending to miss the prop - just fit straight on. Result = brilliant, positive change, no slop. New shifter comes with new bushes, the only other thing you may need is a new nylon 'basket' which the ball on the gear lever fits in to. (Ԛ£4-ish from dealer) - if this is sloppy, it will make a big difference. E30 standard gearchange seems a bit sloppy even when in good nick, so go for a short shift!
