Rack problems. help!!!!!!

:( hi, my rack on my 318is is playing up it seems to be leaking power steering fluid from the rubber gaiter which is around the rack (da long one). Does this mean a visits to my local stealers for a new rack or can it be fixed??
please help somebody? anybody. :cry:

Very common problem, and yes, I'm afraid your rack is toast.
You may go off the idea of a new one from the stealer when they tell you the price.
Sensible options are, exchange rack from a power steering specialist, good rack from a scrappy or convert to manual steering.
If you replace the rack , thoroughly flush out the pump and lines to remove all the old (probably silver or grey) fluid with nice new red fluid.

I have the same problem on my 325 - it's squirting out the red stuff all over the place. I was told in excess of Ԛ£400 for a new one, or recon my one all in for Ԛ£235. Lose the car for three days tho whilst it's done! :(

had the same problem on my is. ended up having the rack rep[laced by bexley at just under Ԛ£300 :cry:

ive got a 325ise sat here with a decent rack as far as i know not had any leaks etc Daz leeds

theres one on ebay,at 14.99 at the moment,not mine.....honest guv!!!
