Not revving under load - help please

My 320i has suddenly started to hate pulling beyond 5000rpm - but only when under load - it's fine when in neutral.

Tested the fuel pump extensively and fuel pressure is fine.

Intake seems fine - not clogged, newish air filter.

It's had a recent head rebuild and valve springs thoroughly tested etc...

It will go beyond 5000 rpm but takes a very very long time to reach 6k

Anyone got any ideas please as I kind of need it sorted by 15th May !

thanks

Is that a Miltek car?
If so, not sure I should be helping - we're racing together at Brands.

Check out the archive on this subject. Mine was exactly the same. New dist cap and rotor arm cured mine. Worth checking your fuel filter too, for what they cost you may as well replace it.

Thanks Mike, I'll try all 3 otherwise it won't be much of a race (for me anyway !).

I know exactly how you're feeling.

I'm struggling with a v spongy brake pedal and a lack of top end power.
Add that to massive understeer at Silverstone's race last weekend and I'm not really too hopeful for Brands :D
But hey, who cares? We're going to be on the grid with 25-30 other BMs, with more or less the same pace - should be a right giggle :D

If the new dist cap, etc doesn't fix it the I think the archives will sugest a worn cam :(
