hi,
i have an 316i(m40) lux which im consider to fit a 318i(m40) engine. Are the cylinder heads the same? Can i just swap the ecu? Would a 318is gear box fit on to the m40 block can you swap them?
Thanks

If you are going to bother with an engine swap, put a 2.5 in.
Bit more effort for a lot more gooooooooooooooo!!

ive already got a 325is, i used my 316i as an every day car.it needs a head gasket change soon so i mite as well fit a 318i and maybe turbocharge it.

i say if your going down the lines its much better to swap to a 1.8 depending on insurance etc.
but the 1.8 is much better!
i bet the plugs for the electrics just clip in and then change the ecu.
i guess the rest is that simple? i reckon you can use the same rad etc?
good choice changing to the 1.8 good luck

Talk to Ant at A-Tech about this Jay.
He has done a couple of turbo M40 1.8's, namely Tylerma and Chrisp.
- Chrisp is the current "car of the month" by the way...
