Trying to get my M42 re-timed and trying to find and hold top dead centre. Ant told me in a previous post that there is a hole near the starter motor which you place an 8mm drill bit in to hold TDC.
Is this the hole he's on about?
Only thing i can find.
Haynes manual says thr is a hole in the flywheel which lines up wit clyinder block. I really cant find it?
Mabe someone can direct me or even better throw up a picture. Thanks

Your looking in the wrong area, the hole is underneath the starter on the very end of the engine, not on the side

Should have a rubber cap over it.

M52 block but not that different, circle is where the starter is mounted and the arrow is pointing at where the hole is, cant see it in the pic, usually has a plastic bung in it.

Yep, that should do it. Although I got a 8mm bar but when I tried it it didn't quite fit so I had to take abit off it to make sure it went in all the way. There is a special tool for the job but thats being boring and lazy
