I have a few rust holes in my car! Gonna have a go at welding myself, never done it but want to give it a go. Can rust be terminal or can anything be fixed?

Basically what i am after is for some top geezer to say:

"Yeah mate my car was rusted to fuck but i welded it all back together again!"

For encouragement please.

Tips would be good also!

Cheers

I did some welding on mine recently, it did look like this,

the metal was as thin as paper, the only conselation is that it dosen't seem to spread, there was solid metal not that far away.
Looks like this now, just need to get it sprayed

Nice job. I find it best to try and tackle one bit at a time. Sometimes i worry what i have taken on. But i wanted to learn about cars
(other than the facts like induction kits add at least 10bhp and neon washer jets are really cool! )
and at the end i get a mint bmw. Just glad i have discovered the zone for inspiration and help and advice.

Cheers

yo alright mate,

Had the rear arches on mine rebuilt as well as the jacking points. i was in the process of getting the car respayed. The scaring on the paint work can be pretty bad, if your doing welding to the extreme

Can't wait to get to the respray stage. Have to learn how to weld first.
Then there are the electrical gremlins and some sort of fuel pump problem (?).
