chipped?

i used to have an e30 318i, but i jst gota 320i and the speed differecne is unbelivable, it has a k&n on it and a straight through alpini exhaust and thats it as far as i no. My dad has owned beemers most of his life n he sed it may b chipped, how do i tell if it is
