Removing cat from exhaust

My E30 318i cabrio just passed the MOT, but the emissions readings were crazy. 0.00% CO, and 1ppm hydrocarbons. The exhaust was excessively hot, and the examiner, and my tame mechanic, suggest that the cat is blocked. However, the car is a 1991, pre compulsory cat vehicle, so I would prefer to do away with the cat. Any comments and advice, and how do I by pass the Lamda/Oxygen sensor?

You can replace the cat section, but keep the lambda probe fitted.

Replacing the cat section with a standard section will be a lot cheaper too.

Take the exhaust off and smash the cat up with a steel rod up the pipe, then pour it out in pieces. This is common practice on LPG powered cars.

the car doesnt need a cat if its registerd befor 1992, as for knocking the blocked cat out i have done that time and time again each time it makes the exhaust sound like s**t. :D :D

Doesn't need a cat if it's registered after 1992 either, if you run it on LPG.
