i have a high pitch wine when on idle, gets worse the more you you rev it up. the alternator and powersteering belts are tight. mayb waterpump, any surgestions?

Take each belt off and run the car for half a minute to narrow down the source of the noise.
Doubt if it's the water pump. They don't normally whine.

X5 V8 for thrills, CRV for chills, Range Rover P38 V8 for sooooo much aggravation...

Noise goes when the alternator/pump belt is removed, so it's not the cambelt.gazza wrote:have you recently fitted a cam belt and idler ....if the idler has been tensioned up to tight the belt can whine a bit or maybe its time to do a cam belt before it goes on you
However, I'd recommend changing the cambelt when the water pump is replaced, as the tensioning spring locates against the water pump.
