Right I want to put an (is) engine in an E30 cabby, I just want check if the (is) engine from an E36 is identical to the (is) from an E30.

From what I can find out the manifold was changed and that's it!!!

or in another word, yes, two identical engines! :D
the pre 1993 engines are identical, and the post 93 engines more or less the same. its the bits attached to the engines that are different. the sump, ex/inl manifolds, engine mts and g/b are different. try using the search there's plenty of info on this on here. imo get the latest m42 engine you can, but remember you'll need manifolds, sump etc off the e30.

The short answer is that you can easily fit an E36 M42 engine into an E30, as long as you have a scrap E30 M42 engine as well.
