HI ZONERS, THIS IS MY FIRST TIME ON THE FORUM, I HAVE RECENTLY BOUGHT MY TOURER AND IT JERKS WHILE I AM DRIVIN ON A CONSTANT THROTTLE OPENING, IT ACCELERATES FINE BUT DOES FEEL SLOW COMPARED TO ANOTHER I SOLD RECENTLY. I AM SERVICING IT ON WEDNESDAY AND HAVE BEEN CHECKING OUT THE FORUM LOOKING FOR CLUES AS TO WHY THIS COULD BE HAPPENING. GOING TO ADJUST THE VALVES AS THEY ARE A BIT NOISY, ALSO THERE SEEMS TO BE A BIT OF HUNTING AT IDLE AND THE CAR SEEMS TO SHAKE A BIT WHEN I BELIEVE THESE ENGINES SHOULD BE SILKY SMOOTH. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GRATEFULL,THANKS GEOFF.
P.S I WILL PUT SOME PICS ON SOON

I am pretty confident the inlet manifold gaskets are perished.
Identical symptoms to what mine had, jerks when driving on a constant light throttle and hunts up and down the revs at tickover.
get the car running and warmed up, then spray WD40 or carb cleaner around the inlet manifold where it bolts to the side of the head. If the idle smooths out briefly then you've found your problem.
The gaskets are pennies but it's a bit of a fanny of a job, also look to replace the rubber "O" rings which go between the crank case breather pipe and the underside of the inlet manifold. all will become apparent once you get the manifold off.
Worth checking other things too like vacum hoses around the throttle body and also the large black rubber elbow as they can split and let in unmetered air which messes things up
Welcome to the zone

incase you need it, there is an excellent guide here for changing cambelt
click on link, then click on maintenance and then scroll to the bottom for "timing belt change"

well yes actually it is possible, but you'd be a fool not to change the belt (unless the belt was recently replaced)
no offence intended dazzle

I used that guide when changing the belt on my 325 when I had it, having never done a job like that before, it worked fine, just take your time and follow the instructions, I printed it all out so I could follow the pics etc. Remmeber the car in that guide is a US LHD car, so references to driver and passenger side are the other way round
