Anyone know what this wire does?

The analogue clock in my dash doesn't appear to be working, It works occasionally, or not at all.
While I was trying to find the problem I found an extra wire had been joined to the live for the clock (green and red if I remember correctly). The wire that was joined in was black and I was able to trace it untill it went in behind the back seat, I assume into the boot, I didn't take the back of the rear seat out.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be for?
Thanking you in advance,
Peter

Maybe a power feed for a powered aerial?
Seems very strange though.
I could just about understand someone splicing into the clock wiring to tap off the illumination feed, but power?
I'd disconnect and see if things improve.

I was thinking of doing that.
The car doesn't have a powered ariel, also it's the permanantly live feed, so tapping this would just leave it on all the time.
I was thinking of removing it and seeing what happenend, I might just go for it.
The only use I could think of for it was to power the cd changer, do they need power constantly? I couldn't find the wire going into it though.

the cd changer should have a remote lead that switches on with the stereo...

I thought that, however I can take out the casette when the ignition and sterio are off, so I'm assuming there's some power getting there all the time?

yep - so if there was a clock within the head unit that would stay correct. but the cd changer should only boot up (if you like) when the stereo is physically turned on..........

I see, so someone's bodged the changer so it stays live all the time. This shouldn't effect the clock though? they hardly use much power?
Is there any common faults with the clocks?
