Electric roof motor broken

Went to put the roof down in the afternoon sun yesterday and nothing! Took it to the BMW garage that had supposedly checked it over before I bought it 2 weeks ago, and the motor is well and truely shot. Its needed encouragement since I got it but I thought that was because it hadnt been used for a year, but nope.
How much should a new motor cost? Im not best pleased so soon after i bought it but iv contacted the seller and hopefully we can come to some arrangement. Where do I stand with it?

Mate.
I know how you feel, I had a similar experience myself. Bill & Jason are probably the best guys to talk to about a repair as Dave said. They did a fab job with mine, even tho the hood frame is almost completly "fatty's leg". They also can repair the motor by post, which might be helpful to you.
Don't give up & go manual!!

You should talk to Jason. He has spare components for the motor which BMW don't supply separately.

right, who's Jason? I spoke to the garage earlier, £940!!!!!!!!!!
The main thing thats pissed me off is that it was sold to me a little over two weeks ago after supposedly being checked over by a guy who works at bmw and passed as everything being fine. Now clearly it wasnt fine as Im sure a motor wouldnt wear out, especially since iv only taken the roof down a couple of times! (god bless British summertime!) Iv let the seller know that its foooooked and will call them again to let them know how much its goin to be, but, where do I stand. Am I able to just say, you sold me something that was false advertised and I want my money back!?!

Calm down and read the advice you asked for. Jason's number is three posts up the thread.

problem temporarily solved. Its a manual roof for now, maybe one day in the future Il get it fixed but there are more pressing priorities in the mean time, like wheels and coilovers!
