As above, or is it not recommended, as I don't really want to take it somewhere or buy an expensive tools if I can do it myself?

think the reset tool is only about a £5 on flea bay.

however if you really wanna go it alone i think you can connect certain pins together on the plug, bound to be someone on here who can tell you which, im too lazy for that so i bought one.

connect pin 7 on the diagnostic socket to earth, switch on ignition until they go out.

where abouts is the socket for the service light toll jobby?

round unscrewable thing next to your manifold, well on an m20 anyway.

Connecting pins 19 and 7 also works. (19 being ground).

Could you use a test light for this, or would the bulb in the test light cause a problem?

I used a piece of copper wire tha was about 3 inches long. Worked a treat.

No idea! I've more bits of wire lying around than test lights.
12 volt 5W test lamp (ex indicator repeater)would probably work OK, as it's only a resistance of about 15 ohms.

Just make sure (and double sure) that you are earthing out the right pins!!!

Earthing the right pins, yeah. That's why I was thinking using a test light would be a good idea as it wouldn't short out if it's the wrong one but light the bulb instead.
