Runs badly/stalls when cold.

hi,
recently had new fuel hose, a vacuum hose, a gasket on my intake manifold replaced, and i just put a new fuel filter in. the mixtures/emissions were balls'd up and i think it was running rich (i presume people had done this to make the car run with all the vacuum leaks) so the emissions were corrected.
but, before this work, it never stalled from cold. now, when i give the car very slight revs and hold it, it stutters and stalls, but its ok with loads of revs on.
i took it back to Auto Bavaria (Newcastle) and they told me i had the wrong plugs (i'd put those Bosch super + four point things in a couple of months back). put the new plugs in (had the gaps adjusted on them first) and now its even worse! running really bad when its cold and kangarooing again at low revs. with the 'wrong' plugs in it had a least cut down the kangarooing.
i'm going to try new leads, and check my dis cap again (last time i looked it wasn't particularly bad)...but i'm at a total loss, i suppose it could be a truck load of things (injectors? faulty air flow meter? fuel pressure regulator? idle control valve?) but why does it only run really kak when it's cold?
any advice here would be really appreciated. (sorry i've written loads, need to cut down on the coffee...)
thanks.
