Clear tube/Main light

While removing my driver's side front light unit, I noticed a clear tube that ran to the back of my main head light.
On inspecting this, I noticed a tiny crack where the tube attached to the unit, and some fluid dripped from that crack when I to remove the tube.
I decided to leave it in case I cause more damage.
Question: What is this tube? It's not mentioned in my Haynes manual and I have no front light washers. See photo below.

Its the hydraulic headlight leveler system. And if its leaking, then its already broken and cant be fixed.
My advise would be to cut the hose and remove the pipes.

i've ripped those hoses out of mine, should have a dig around to get rid of the other bits then.

Thanks for that, Smithy.
So, I take it these aren't very important or any longer required?

Just means you can alter the level of the light beam for when you have extra weight in the back....... if they work, which most dont.

Out of interest, before you cut them, do a search in the forums. There is a thread on re-filling them and getting them running. They ARE repairable if you can be bothered. Do a search for adjuster.
Hang on I'll do it for you, see below.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, I wouldn't bother cutting them out either. Someone analy retentive with too much time on their hands when visiting the in-laws may want to fix it in the future...
I have yet to try to do ours.

Any fix will only be temporary. The electric set up from an E34 can be fitted in its place, if you really want cabin adjustable lights.

I wonder how many of these are still working, unlike mine. Also, are they the least reliable factory-fitted option or does someone have another contender?

I suppose the runner up is the headlamp wipers, but these will last a good ten years after a service, and are usually fully repairable.
