Hey,

Found one of the wires burnt and now corroded, duno what it does
Picture 1 shows the wire damage, minimal
Picture 2 shows the sensor it leads to (I dont know what this sensor is)

Any cause for concern?
The reason I ask is im trying to solve why the car is drinking so much fuel 21MPG and im working on replacing parts so i might as well get them all at once while im at it.

oil pressure switch (sensor)
thats what triggers the oil light next to the battery light when it thinks pressure is low

well theres no light coming on, and i think theres no engine problems.....only thing is its drinking petrol which i was largely putting down to other things.

do you think this needs replaced?
Id say replacing that wire is a pain in the ass!!

I have mine unplugged as the old engine's sensor has a different connector to my late loom.

Definitely oil pressure switch wire, and most of us would consider a working oil light to be a fairly high priority!
Any idea how it got burnt?
If this wire shorts to earth the only effect will be to put the oil light on, which is not a good idea when you're driving along, as the correct reaction to an oil light is to push the gear lever into neutral and kill the engine immediately!
If the copper part of the wire looks OK, then it can just be sleeved as a repair. It's quite common to have to do this, as the plastic insulation on this wire often becomes brittle from heat where it goes around the front of the engine.

irish-e30 here, temp username as im waiting my lost password
it got burnt from just lying against the metal there, ok ill just put insulating tape over it, no light is coming on so i suppose from what your saying there then it most likely is still ok!!
