fuel pressure regulator - 2.5 or 3.0

hello all,

i've seen that there is a variation out there, between the 2.5 and 3.0 bar FPS depending on the capacity of the engine or, even at the same capacity, varying on wether it is a catalyst version or not.
i just seen a post here on the forum, and checked the specs, and checked mine, a m20b20 jetronic, that's the 2 litre one, so the specs say 2.5bar but i'm currently running on the 3.0 bar one.

hmmm, guys what is your opinion on this, how does that affect the engine performance, fuel consumption and so?

They are all up to 3 bar fpr on the m20, dosen't mean it's running that high though...

Not sure about the jetronic 320i but the motronic 320i is definately 2.5 bar.

i've checked a bmw parts catalog, and it seems that the 320i, 323i, jetronic or motronic, use the same 2.5bar FPR and the 325i uses the 3.0bar, and some of the 4 cylinder ones, use either the 2.5 or the 3.0 depending on wether is it motronic or not.

i'm just curios on what importance this specification has. anyways i'm downgrading to the 2.5 now :P

Its important as the pressure dictates how much fuel gets into the cylinders via the injectors, Higher the PSI, the more fuel......
