Hi, need a little help with a E30 we done an engine swap on. We cant get the oil check light to go out. The old engine had a 3 pin connector on it but the new engine only has 2 pins.

Is there an easy way to get the light out?

Cheers

The facelift engines have a rectangular 3 pin connector, the pre-facelift engines had a 2 pin round connector. You'll need to fit the sensor from the old engine to the new one, it's only 2 bolts/nuts on the sensor and one on the cable.

Cheers,

We didnt change the engine loom though so the sender has the 2 pin connector. Where do these wires goto and can you wire the 2 pin sender into the car to get it to work or do we have to fit the 3 pin sender?

Cheers

Change the sender over as Ian T says. Five minute job.
Two pin sensor is just a simple level switch. Three pin one has two switches, one for static level, and one for dynamic.

If we change the sender over we'll be left with a sender with a 3 pin rectangle connector and a wire with a 2 pin round connector to connect it too.

You're loosing me! Use whatever sender was originally connected to the loom you have in the car. The one on the original engine, I presume.

We put a mk1 engine into a mk2 car. We never changed the engine loom or car loom, so the engine loom is a mk1 and the car loom and ecu is a mk2.

You never changed the engine loom, as in you kept it with the engine, or, as far as the car is concerned, you have changed the engine loom. Correct?
If so, the problem is arising at the C101 engine loom connector. You have one oil level sensor wire in the plug (engine side), but two level sensor wires in the socket (car side).
The two wires on the car side are pins 2 and 10. Presumably only one of these is used on the engine side, but I don't have a wiring diagram for this early loom, so you'll have to have a look under the rubber boot and report back.
