E30 Zone

Hey Zone, Since i bought my 320i the air conditioning has only been producing cold air even when the dial is all way up at the red it still producing cold air instead of warm air, any ideas what could be wrong and how to fix this ?

Heater control valve i would supect? I assume these are still the same with air con but i'm sure someone will know better

They don't usually fail shut, unless the hoses are on the wrong way around, so that's the first thing to check1
Look in the engine compartment and check that the lower heater stub pipe is connected to the hose that comes from the back of the cylinder head, and the upper one goes to the 'tee' hose.
Turn the heater control to hot, and with the engine up to temperature, check if both the heater hoses are hot near the stub pipes.

Hey Brian, just been out to the garage, all the connections seem to be in good order, just warmed the engine up to tempreture, and turned the heater control to hot, still ain't getting any warm air, any idea's what could be wrong and how to fix this ?

Were both the pipes hot going into and out of the heater matrix?

No they were cold

Where was the needle on the temp gauge when you switched it off? I'm assuming you left it running long enough for the thermostat to open??

I had one fail on me once in the middle of winter. Only blew freezing cold air. Used have to drive to work with my big winter coat on and thermo gloves.

I swapped the heater control valve and all was well. You don't appreciate something until it's gone.

If the pipes are cold, the engine's not overheating and the pipes are on the right way around (you haven't confirmed this), then it probably is the heater valve stuck shut.
