Hi there, sorry to sound pathetic, i have to fit a rear drivers side quarter window in my e30, (the little one you'd break if you locked your keys in the ignition) i heard something about string? Does anyone have a link to a guide or any tips?
Yea i know its probably straightforward but when it comes to mechanics and cars i'm a bit of a muppet.
thnx in advance.

Thanks with the help on the window

, i found out on the MG forums

, anyway next on todays list is replacing a dipped beam bulb, - i've had a quick shufty and theres a bulb at the top that comes out easy without removing any parts but this isnt the dipped beam bulb

. Wondering if anyone on HERE could let me know how to access the dip bulb, do i have to take the headlight assy out from the engine side of the panel?
thnx in advance.

You could read the technical articles section.... there is a write up of how to convert a fixed rear window to the opening type... It will give you a general overview of what you need to do, the string bit is just practice!
By the way, it usually takes more than an hour to get the answer to a question, patience!
On the back of the headlight, there is a central cover, this twists off, from there you can access the lamp. No need to remove the headlight!

)

if u lock ur keys in a car u dont smash the window, u get a bit of newspaper binding ribbon, fold it in half so it loops, slide in door over door pin and u in, cheaper and also means u dont hav to hoover ur car out!

Aye or a brick tie (unfortunately it was not me who broke it, was the previous keeper). Thing is - i have the window, and have put string around the seal as described, it just seems there is no way on earth that the window is going to fit in the gap (yea its the correct part new from BMW). Im really stuck on this thing now, and with my lack of patience the window is going to end up being gaffer taped up again.

Is this the rear quarter window in a 4 door by any chance? If so, you need to remove the doorcard to get to a bolt holding the vertical window strip in.

I thought you were talking about a 2 door, don't think you need the string to re-fit a rear 4 door 1/4 glass. Chris will confirm I'm sure! I would have thought you will need to remove the the big window first in order to move the window channel???

No string needed - wind the main window down and release the rubber from the upright piece, then undo the bolt that holds it at the bottom; you can move it out of the way past the main window.
