Juddering Engine...

Few months back i was cruising at a steady speed along the motorway and the car now and again was sort of jumping. It was like it was cutting out for a fraction of a second.
The today i was cruising at a steady speed again and it did it again but was word, for about a second maybe two. It seemed to carry on if i accelerated. But it went back to normal again. Only did it about 3 times.
I did a full service today but didnt do/check the rotor arm or dizz cap, could it be them? or fuel pump maybe?
btw it s 318i

sounds like the fuel pump, I have the same problem I like to call it my 100mile hiccup as at the moment I only notice it on my commute to work, 220 miles away and happens near enough evey 100 miles, so 2 per journey.
I lose power for litterally a second then it returns, apparently a common problem and I'm on my second fuel pump myself and always carry a spare too!
what sort of revs were ou cruising at, I also had an unrelated problem which made the car kangaroo or udder nder 1500 RPM in an gear, but thats sorted now too!

Also is it possible that it can totally shut down? Or will it just judder now and again? Or is there no way of telling

I've never experienced a FPR failure myself although it was suggested to me, when I described my fault.
I litterally lost power for a second no more no less, and then all was sweet, like a hiccup, and it happened at any engine speed and any gear, just happened every 100miles or so on a long run.
the car would feel like it would stall but as I was driving at 70mph (+?) it never would power would come bach before m speed dropped too much.
What are our exact symptoms and what exactly happens?? ie how fast you going? when? what happens n the dash? RPM? what can you hear? any other problems?

Just going along at about 70/80ish not accelerating or anything and it would feel like its cut out, the same as u describe. Dash seems fine, didnt hear anything just felt like i ran out of petrol really. Must be the fuel pump i suppose. Never had it happen at low sleeps or when driving normally, only on the motorway. When i am at the same speed for a while.
I am worried now as i am driving to Germany on the 3rd April and cant really afford to get a fuel pump until my next student loan comes in (16th), haha

sorry then every time you've repliedhas convinced me its the fuel pump.
and I'd get a spare before ou leave for germany, even if ou have to buy it out of beer money or on a credit card it will be a wise investment, sounds like ours is on the way out.
If its any consolation or makes you feel like not buing one, from when my symptoms started to failure was about 2000 miles!
