Just bought a 325i touring (new to bmw's) and was wondering how tricky is it to change a timing belt and tensioners?

Should this be done every 30,000?

tomk, ignore shiston, your m20 engined 325 has a belt!!Unless you are certain it has been changed in the last 3years/30000miles change it.Its radiator out,fan off, upper and lower covers, and the crank pulley toget to it,either Haynes or Bentley will give you a step by step guide.May pay you to do the water pump whilst you are in there.Oh,yes, welcome to the world of understated style and the zone!!

Welcome to the zone on behalf of the management!
Definitely a belt on any E30 325 that hasn't had an engine conversion!
As daimlerman says basically. When he refers to removing the crank pulley, it only means the outer part, held on by six bolts NOT the hub held on by the big centre bolt.
