Can someone tell me where the sensor for the engine temp. gauge is on 325i (1991). My engine temp. gauge needle flickers and for the last few days it shoots to the red mark as soon as u start the car and some times it goes to the normal point.
i wanted to inspect the sensor for any clues.
thanks

The sensor is probably the one part of your temp gauge that is NOT defective!
The flicker is probably caused by a slightly loose nut on the back of the cluster directly behind the gauge, and the shooting into the red is likely to be an intermittant short to earth of the wire from the sensor, or possibly a dying set of SI board batteries.
Thinking about it, a VERY loose nut on the cluster might be the cause of both problems, so sort that first
