WHAT R THE SYMPTOMS OF A FAULTY AIRFLOW METER

hi

i took my 325i (auto) to a garage to have the engine tuned as it was miss firing when you set off from stand still and also it is giving me poor economy (14 to 15 mpg aound town) i have been told by the garage that the airflow meter is faulty. can this bee true

I think there is more than the AFM at fault.

before i replace the AFM i need to make sure that the AFM is at fault. how much would you sell me the AFM Dave.

To test an AFM, connect a six or nine volt battery across pins 4 and 3, and connect (preferably) an analogue voltmeter across 4 and 2. Oscilloscope is even better.
Move the air flap slowly from fully closed to fully open by hand while watching the meter needle. It should move slowly with no jumping whatsoever.

Jassleads,this could just be an air leak around the inlet manifold and its connecting pipework.Check that all manifold fasteners are present and sealing properly,ICV sealed and working?Elbow from T/B to AFM not split?
