Squeeking on full lock!

Either Sweep has fallen under the wheels of my car, and is stuck, or my car has developed a squeek!

It happens when it's on full lock, travelling forwards and backwards (obviously!).

The tyres / wheels are standard... It's not particulary low... But it does just sound like it's scrubbing! :?

Any ideas?! It's only done it today, but the 3 times it did it, the last time sounded loudest... And I don't want to just ignore it hoping it goes away!

my old e36 used to do it on full lock...and continued doing it for 25k+ miles

my e30 does it, but the steering rack is on its way out.

Check the 'boots' for leaking; I dont know what or where the 'boots' are, but the mechanics tell me thats where the problem is :D

Mine does it too.

I blame big wheels and low suspension and try not to go to full lock in front of people.

yep sounds to me like belt slipping as the pump labours on a full lock

definitly slipping i had to fix the same prob with my last beemer u need to look under the alternator there u will find the steering pump there is a steel bar with teeth attaching it loosen the lock nut (10ml) on the small cog located on the toothed bar turn the cog to move the pump away from the engine tighten lock nut job done no more squeek takes about 20 mins 8)

have you checked the fluid level.

Changing the fluid does wonders for this problem. Also it is not a good idea to have the steering at full lock.
