Close Ratio Gearbox??

I=ve just bought a sport with a noisy gearbox in first and second - i have been supplied another gearbox off a 325i (apparantly) but i am not sure whether it is the same close ratio type...


how can i tell???

From what I remember mate, the only way to tell is to get the box out and find a number, I may be wrong but I'm sure I remember saying there is a code on the underneath which will tell you. Or get someone who knows what a close ratio box feels like to drive the car.

Theres a code on the bell housing, should be HM or HN i think.

Post the number on here and somebody will verify.

Checked it couldnt find the number HN/HM :(

i have got a normal 325i box but i have been told that the ratios are definelty different - anybody got a sports close ration box on the cheap??

Try oze30, he's bought mine but might not need it as he's done the 3.5 conversion. :D

A Sports box will have either TNN or HM stamped in the bell housing outer edge. Anything else and it is not a Sports box.
