It's never really going to see the track i'm afraid as it's the hairdresser's version (convertible!).... as one of my mates puts it!!
So is 15W50 silkolene the best one to go for then??

TWS is the best, then Motul then Silkolene/Mobil one.

According to the Oilman and BMW themselves TWS is NOT recommended to the E30 M3 actually its only recommended has it says on the tin to E46 M3's and M5's. This oil was designed specifically for these cars to address dome specific lubrication issues. This oil is generally too viscous for other engines increasing heat soak and diminuished mileage, etc.

Cant go wrong with Mobile one. Been using it for years in all my cars from small turbos (Escort Cossie) to huge yanks (440 Challenger) and cant recommend it enough.

hummm......
the E30 M Power manual states... "The oil viscosity must always be SAE 14 w-40 / 15W50."
So i take it 15W50 it is then......
As for brand, it goes on to say.... "BMW Motorsport GmbH recommends the use of Wintershall Viva 1 engine oil"
What the flippin heck is that?? Maybe i'm being ignorant, but i've never even heard of Wintershall!!

I also use Silkolene Pro S as recommended by Guy @ Opie oils. I tried lots of different ones before using this, and I honestly believe the engine runs quieter on this stuff. Also its the same stuff i usedc to use in my superbikes and they rev to 16k rpm. So I have peace of mind that the oils can easily cope with 8k.

I honestly didnt know of this, going from my own experience and other S14 guys who track their cars hard TWS is the best oil around and i cant see why going from 15w50 to 10w60 would be too viscous thats just total rubbish if you ask me.
Just look at any of the technical publications on oils TWS 10w60 is the best on paper and in reality.
If your engine is noisy its because its worn not because the oil you are using is better/worse.
I have used Silkoline 15w50 and in the same month converted to TWS the engine noise didnt change in the slightest.
