Hi, I wanted to find out if the alpina or m3 brain can be used on a 325sport and if so what modifications would need to be done. Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks
Win

yeah get a chip meant for a 325i though. Can be found in the zone shop.
or if your budget is a bit more go for MS, or another such remappable ecu.
there would be no point using an m3 or alpina ecu, as it wouldn't run the 325i correctly, the ecu takes signals from various sources around the car to decide how to best manage the engine according to the fuel/air map its loaded with. So if you used a ecu not specifically mapped for the right engine it would either run worse than before or not at all.

MS is megasquirt, its a bit intensive, and costs in the region of £700 including fitting.
www.megasquirt.info for info.
Or there are other solutions, other types of chip that are cheaper but can only be reprogrammed by certain rolling road centres, so you'd probably end up paying more in labour rates anyway.
the cheapest route for mildly a modified engine is probably the zone chip around £100, comes preloaded with a better than stock map. If you haven't allready look at big bore throttle bodies, 6 branch manifold/sports exhaust, at the extreme end of the scale performance cam shafts,
And better than all these for BHP per £, you can get free/cheap ponies by making sure the engine is well serviced with quality parts.
