If you look on the back panel below the window you will see some slits ,this is the vent for the rear screen heater blower..it blows hot air onto the screen and if working you should be able to hear it.

to get to it you have to take the rear seat back out

there is a small switch under the roof cover on the passenger side (for your cars) can be seen near where the folding roof attches to the body, this closes when roof is fully down and stops the blower from working!.... i know this cause my sub woofer runs from this power supply and took me a few hours to figure out why i only had bass with the roof shut

sounds like a good idea to me; Allah/God must have been guiding your hand - with your top down why should I have to listen to your awful taste in music as I drive past?

eh?
did you mean to type 'didn't'?
And of course the same connectors (and dash switch) make the rear screen elements work in the hardtop - how cool is that?

Aaaanyway, does the blower actually heat up the air that it blows at the screen? I've never bothered to check, & figured it was probably just a blower (which might explain why it's blimmin rubbish).

probably heats it up - it smells like it when you start it for the first time for months. It works well when the screen is frozen (I noticed this before I got a hardtop)
And you've never descended into pointless banter Ziggy?

Me?! The very picture of innocence. I just couldn't think of anything to say about the latest exploits of the Cliffmeister. To point out that he's quite clearly retarded, seemed a bit redundant.
I've never smelt the 'dusty electric heater' smell from it, so that might explain why
my blower's useless! Methinks I should start looking for a new one, but I'll investigate first... Ta

Oh, & going further off topic - how do you get on with your hardtop? Been contemplating getting one for ages, but storage would be the biggest issue I think...

There's a couple of wires that warm up ... warming up the air that passes over it.
Not a bad design for the early 80's me thinks.

hardtop - swings and roundabouts.
plus:
Quiet, warmer, rear screen clears, no chance of water getting-in over winter, looks fantastic with all windows down (pillarless coupe stylee), less likely to be vandalised (cloth being slashed I mean) unless someone is trying to steal the hardtop itself
minus:
can't go topless on a sunny winters day.
I got a frame with mine that hangs on the garage wall, so the hardtop hangs on this from spring to autumn.

Would do, but I can't imagine there's a seperate feed to the blower & the heater element is there? Mine blows fine, I just don't think it heats...

Sorry which 'pricks' do you hate? And what does cliffybabe 'do'?
Go topless? Go on the swings?

bllody hell, i only said there was a switch to turn it off with the roof down!!! makes pefect sense to me, why clear a screen that is not there?
there are two supplies, one for the fan and one for the heater element, i would imagine the heater elements would not last too long if they are bounced about hot so if yours does not smell of burnt stuff when you first turn it on chances are the element is knackered. this bigger supply has a nice big wire and fuse, so it now powers my sub, roof up or down as i shorted out the offending little switch... and i am a God man thank you, although not met the fella yet!!
and i can only go topless in winter... its too hot in summer... do you hate me for that?? am i a prick??
and as for OC's comment on another thread... yes i do know a bit about pre facelifts i have not always been a techie 2 man

Ziggy, beg ya pardon mate, I thought it didnt blow at all!!
orange, in case you're too dumb to interpret what i said, I hate w*nkers who have convertibles and deem it necessary to drive around with the roof down in January, wearing a coat and scarf... as you so clearly do. Neil is also a fiend for this stupid behaviour... however, I find it extremely dificult to hate him. He actually IS special

yeeeessssss it wasn't obvious what you were talking about though was it?
I'm with Ziggy on this - jealousy.
BTW I've even got one of those silk scarves with wires in it, so it sticks out backwards even when I'm not moving

No probs - thanks for trying to help anyway!

It does indeed blow, & it is indeed cold... I'll have an investigate of the power supply to the heater before I source a new one (cheers MrLee), but I won't hold my breath.
orangecurry wrote:I'm with Ziggy on this - jealousy.
There really is no other reason for it. Doesn't affect anyone else in any other way...

Must... get... wired... scarf...!
All I have is heated seats & wind deflectors...
