m10 fuel pumps / relays

my 318i m10 has been dead since Jan 1st :cry:

I have got some time on my hands now and would like to resuscitate it.

Had a problem with the battery discharging, so am picking up a replacement tomorrow.

According to the RAC man there could be problems with the fuel pump / relays.

Can anyone offer any tips here - where to look, what to check for?

Cant afford to get it towed and repaired at the garage so any help is muchos appreciated.

Not giving us a lot to work on there. Is the battery dud, or being discharged by a fault in the car when parked up, or just not being charged by the alternator?
Best way to test the fuel pump is to pull the feed hose off the fuel rail, pull out the fuel pump relay and short together pins 30 and 87 of its socket. Fuel should flow from the disconnected pipe. Complication on your car is that it probably has the old two pump set up with a lift or primer pump in the tank, and a high pressure pump in front of the rear left wheel arch, so fuel flowing doesn't prove that both tanks are working. The engine will start and run OK with the tank pump failed, but not if the pressure pump has quit.
You should be able to hear the pressure pump quite clearly buzzing away.

The battery was old and a complete dud. The pressure pump has possibly gone the same way as there is no buzzing.

Just put the new battery in and she still did not want to fire up :(

Think I need to go and purchase a Haynes manual or just wait until its payday :D
