or does everyones E30 have the "check" light flash as soon as you turn on the ignition and you have to press the brake pedal to get the "check" light off and also the "brake light" light on the computer on the roof?

ive been doing this for years now and thought it was normal.....but the "check" light comes back on between journeys! this can be within the first 5 mins, 10 mins, 40 mins or even not at all whilst driving.

why does it keep comming on :-s ive replaced both brake light bulbs!

It's just a system check thing I think. Mine comes on when the ignition is switched on, and it's every time the ignition is switched on.

Yes - to question 1.

Which light comes back on? The red one in the check panel, or the yellow CHECK on the cluster?

If it's the 'Brake light' red one then perhaps you have a poor connection in the boot bulb-holder.

Mine does that too, if it comes on whilst driving there is a bad connection somewhere or you're using cheap bulbs.

I cleaned up all the connectors with a fibreglass brush and some contact cleaner, never lit up mid journey since.

Faulty brake light switch or maladjusted brake pull rod can cause this as well.

The "Check" light coming on with the Brake light warning when you switch the ignition on is normal.

On my old 320i, the check/brake light waring would come on when i used the indicators.....

cheers for the response guys, its both the "check" light and "brake lights" light on the roof. ill give the connectors a good clean see if this shifts it, like i said its very hit and miss, sometimes it comes on during journeys and sometimes it dosent.

i "think" the wire that is not seated correctly on the handbrake handle heel can cause this to come on.
