Another question - differential?

Here I go with yet another question:

The cars a 1990 H 316i, 92000 miles. When driving I've been getting a sort of throbbing whine from the rear, it comes in at around 30mph, gets gradually higher in pitch as I get faster, and vanishes at around 60mph, presumably because the pitch is too high for me to hear. It happens when accelerating, breaking and on overrun, but always happens. It's clearly audible with the window up and stereo off.

I've searched for possible solutions, and differential whine or wheel bearings seem to be the common "whines" from the rear, but neither seem to match my exact problem. Has anyone got any ideas?

Sound like the diff or the propshaft centre bearing to me.

Cheers,

Start with changing your propshaft centre bearing first, sounds more propshaft than diff..
