i 've changed my windscreen recently (myself) which wasn't a problem, but what is is replacing the hard plastic centre which fits in the rubber itself , any suggestions on how to fit it , No great problem to take it to a fitter but i've got this far with it i'd like to complete the fitting Cheers keith

the guy that does Our screens at work usually gets someone to push on the screen from the inside to open the gap in the rubber a little.

not big or clever but it works and hes not broken one yet

There's a special tool to do this, ( only a diamond shaped piece of stiff wire ), that does this job in seconds.
Wouldn't know where to buy one, or possibly hire one though.

How long did it take you to change?

Would you mind sharing your knowledge?

Approx 5 mins to remove , take out the centre hard plastic which runs in the middle of the screen rubber firstlly removing the centre clip located in the middle of the rubber at the bottom of the screen, run thin screwdriver completely around the screen rubber to break any seal that may have formed . position blanket on the bonnet to protect the pait work , have someone you can trust to hold onto the screen while you pop inside the car and really carefully apply a little pressue on the screen either with you uppervbody weight or your feet and push out which will cause the screen to detach from the rubber , once you've got about a couiple of inches out the screen is easily removed replacement is the reversal but you don't have to use you body weight but a specilist tool which enables you to reposition the rubber over the lip of the screen, hardest part is replacing the centre plastic back into the rubber This is ok to do if you have the confidence in yourself

i had my windscreen replaced today..160 fitted

as i was standing right nezt to him as he did it iԚ´ll write what i saw

.slid the black clip over to the left

.got the triangle tool and ran it round the inside of the windscreen and weatherstrip

.peeled out the weatherstrip from the right

.he got in while his mate held down on the screen from outside

.the screen pushed out very easily

.degrased the inner seal, positioned the new screen on the inner seal

.Ԛ´edged inԚ´same weatherstrip (dependant on condition of course) and given a moisturising spray before re-inserting the strip

.smoothed in from left to right, clip slid back over to cover gap in the weatherstrip

and that was it.
i noticed the special edged tool, but his mate had a totally different looking one and he did an edge on my window so i think its not soo important, having the experience is :?

Be carefull not to stretch the strip as you fit it, or it will gradually shrink back and leave a gap at the ends.
