Hi I have some strange going on's
My auto gear box has now started to not make changes when required and now sometimes it just stays in one gear at all times.. using the switchable knob now doesn't do a great deal.. yet it then seems fine and it works as it did and should. Yesterday I changed the chip to the 2.7 auto chip and all seemed well but then it went wrong... so I swaped the chip back but I still have the problem.
I also have a serious rattle and shake from the handbrake area which occurs in mild and firm acceleration I had the car in the garage on Friday to have the diff coupling replaced and new gear box mounts do you think that this could be more likely to be causing the problem with the box. you never know they might not have put it back together correctly as it didn't do that when the car went in....

check the fluid level

Ok where do I start for that one.

You need to have the car on the level with the engine running and warmed up. Check the level with the yellow dipstick at the rear of the block. The fluid needs to be at the mid level and should be pink and translucent. If it's brown and muddy it could spell trouble. If it is you could try draining the gearbox and re-filling with fresh fluid. You could also change the filter which is accessible by taking off the square panel underneath the box. Strange that this all happened after your garage visit as you say. They will have dropped the gearbox to do the mounts. There is a lever on the outside of the box on the left hand side which is part of the selector mechanism which may have got bent. I would take off all the selector trim on the inside of the car and see if anything seems loose. I have a switchable auto which lasted to 190,000 miles (including on track which is very punishing on an auto) before needing a rebuild + new torque converter. Came to about £600 fitted. Hope you don't need that! I'm only sharing my experience - there are more knowledgeable gurus on the zone!
