As DaveD says. On facelift cars there's a hole and split tube sprouting out of the LH brake air intake duct, and the sensor should be pushed in here.

here is what you are looking for,

if your OBC is bonging its head off and showing -55, then it could just be missing!

Mine looks different, full black color and a slightly different shape.

I think the pre-facelift ones are all-black?

From memory, there's an extra small hole in the black-bit of the front spoiler on the passenger side. If you have a sensor, it's behind this.

But I don't know how you get at the sensor?

thanks, i think I've found it. kinda looks like it could of been a snapped screw poking out of a hole under the screw that holds the bumper in place.

I'll try and get it out and see if the connections are bad and maybe redo them. supposedly these things are supposed to have a lifetime use out of them due there no moving parts construction.

Are all the OBC temp sensors the same regardless of the age of the E30? Will a sensor from a facelift car work on an OBC from say an 86??
Cheers Spadge..

it appears that the early ones are all black with a long cable attached, while the later ones have a plug into the body. not sure if the resistance ranges are the same.

Cheers
I know they differ in appearance and that the plug is different but i have fitted a later temp sensor to my early obc and it is showing about 90 degree's C at the moment when it is minus something or other
Perhaps this is down to the resistance as you say?

more then likely.

same reason why different fuel senders give different readings on different gauges. say the early OBC is set to work with 200-2000ohms and the later sender is 2000-5000ohms then the reading will be all wrong. not sure exactly what the ranges are on both temp senders those are just for example.

It's supposed to "bong" when you start the car ... if the temp is under 2.5 C

there's a couple just need to know how to search.

It's weird being a board that doesn't have a no ebay link posting rule. the old volvo board i'm a morderator on has this policy as peop.............

ahh found it EBAY: Unless you're the seller, its usually not good conduct to broadcast great finds on ebay (especially if there are already bids on it, possible from other tbricks members), as it "steps on toes" of those that spend time looking for good prices.

no worries here though everywhere has different rules.
