LSD oil is Castrol SLX - XJ

Gearbox should be ATF

if the LSD is a medium case, you'll need 1.7 litres, or 1 litre for a small case

i think the g'box is about 2 litres

E30 manual boxes run on SAE 80W gear oil unlike E36> which use ATF.

iain, i thought they ran on that, but when i put 80 in my iS, it felt really notchy until the car had driven a few miles

80 is what is specified for an E30 box, but ATF is a well known (and acceptable) bodge for dealing with boxes that have a stiff gear change when cold.

Steer clear of slick50, waste of money.

Non-LSD diff oil is SAE 90w gear oil, get a well known brand.

ok, so when do you know when the diff oil needs to be changed?

It's supposed to be changed at every inspection 2 service iirc.

I change mine every 2 years, probably overkill but cheaper than having the diff rebuilt
