Correct reservoir level?

Hi all,

Can anyone please tell me what the correct level on the radiator reservoir should coolant be topped up to? Mine's a 318i cabby 1993 facelift model.

I notice that there are small grooves going up one side of the reservoir. The short grooves stop a short distance before the top of the reservoir. There is also a solid line lower down, roughly about half way up the reservoir.

So is the maximum level determined by the top groove or by the solid line? I've topped up to the top groove, but notice that the coolant level has dropped over the last 2 weeks so that it's now closer to the solid line mark.

Cheers

Ben

About half-way is correct.

If it doesn't continually lose water, then correct is where it settles after a couple of weeks!
My wife's 325 theoretically should be filled to the seam halfway up the tank, but it always goes down to, and then stays at, about 1/4 of an inch below this mark. Top it up, and after a couple of days it will be down again.
