E30 Zone

urgent help is apreciated, i need to chagnge the rear pads, it has rear disk brakes.

at the caliper, there are 2 allen bolts(under the plugs) and two larger hex bolts(17mm i think)
wich ones need to be undone o remove just the pads?
all 4 of them? or just the allen? or just the hex?
anyone knows what allen key size is needed? my car is on jacks, i'm waiting for the answer

Iirc, you should only need to remove one of the allen bolts completely, and maybe slacken the other one off a bit. You should then be able swing the caliper assembly out to get at and change pads. Its a while since I did mine, but I'm pretty sure you dont need to remove the 17mm hex bolts. (They bolt the whole assembly to the hub.) Vaguely remember 7mm as allen key size, but could be wrong.

thanks a lot! on my way to buy an new allen key set, mine has the exact size missing:D i have one that is too small and one that is too large, tried them both:D

just remove the 2 plastic caps on each side undo the allen bolt take them right out. take of the metal spring (the metal thing on the outside of the caliper) and pull the caliper back off the disc, take out the pads ...on the offside be carefull of of the pad wear sensor cable if worn replace this as well assembley is the reverse .....by the way i forget to tell you to push the caliper pistons back into there housing as the pads wont fit make sure the allen bolts are clean and grease them cos it they seize only one side of the caliper will work ...replace the spring and dont forget to apply the pedal to take up any slack in the pads/piston travel before driving off ...then give them time to bed in

Well said, Gazza - I forgot to mention pushing the caliper piston in - If yoiu've got one, michael24m, a G-clamp is perfect for pushing the caliper piston back in!

uhuu, job done.
it was kinda messy without the Clamp...
but it can be done with a couple of screwdrivers
i didn't silicone the bolts i forgot, but i wiped them off good before i put them back in.
